What can I take to make my laser hair removal less painful?

posted by admin in March 14th, 2009
in laser hair removal

I have a high pain tolerance and for some reason the laser hair removal on my face is awful. Its worse than the two surgeries I had and everytime it seems to hurt worse. I'm not sure if the lady is doing it right because it hurts so bad. I would have stopped long ago, but I paid in advance and have three sessions left (no refunds). Anyway, is there anything I can take to ease the pain? Last time I took Tylenol and numbing cream and it didn't help.

Well, my nurse who does my treatments says some people take advil, and a lot of people take vicodin. Some people come in drunk and one person even brings in a flask and drinks during the procedure. If you can get your hands on prescription pain killers like vicodin or hydrocodine I highly recommend it, just go to a doctor and tell them you have back pain =) Here's my normal answer too in case it helps you any =)

Okay… science answer:

You grow in at least 80% of your hair during puberty. When you have laser hair removal the hairs it kills will never grow again. But you still have up to 20% of your normal thickness that will grow in throughout the rest of your life. So people get touch up sessions every 3-5 years after their big 6 treatments. You need about 6 treatments, one each 2 months for a year, because the hair grows in different stages and it can only kill hair in the active growth stage. The laser works by targeting dark color (the hair follicle) and passing through light color (the skin) the hair and skin have to be very different shades of color for the hair to work. The darker and coarser the hair and lighter the skin, the better results you will have.

Okay… Personal Experience:

I've had 2 out of my 6 treatments so far. It HURTS! It's like being poked with a sewing needle over and over, but it's not as painful as a tattoo, and that's not as painful as childbirth, maybe that can put the pain in perspective for you =) I've had my legs, underarms, and bikini area done. When you get your bikini area done they do ALL of it! Including spreading your butt and vaginal lips apart to laser all the cracks… It's sorta awkward. After the 2 treatments I've had so far I've lost about 60% of leg hair, 40% bikini hair, and 25% underarms hair. It's because the underarms hair is the thinnest and the leg hair is the coarsest. But the legs are the most painful. The more it hurts the better it works.
I spent this much for 6 treatments in each area:
Bikini-$750
Underarms-$750
Legs (toes to bikini)-$2,500

Has anyone use any kind of laser hair removal at home?

posted by admin in March 13th, 2009

I'm thinking about buying the Tria beauty laser hair removal and i was wondering if anyone had used before or if they have used anything else. please let me know your story and if you had good or bad results.
Also i was wondering if i use the laser if i can be in the sun after the treatment or for how long do i have to way?????
thank you in advance.
there are two laser hair removal that are approve by theFDA now. and you can use them in the privacy of your home wish it really pleasent. Also they are both under 1000 dollar each.
1-Silkn'
2-Tria Beauty.

Let me try my best to help you. I bought a TRIA about a year ago when it first came out and I though it was the coolest thing ever. I used it about twice on my bikini area before I got sick of it. It takes about 20 minutes to do the bikini area because you have to pick it up and set it down between each pulse of laser (the lasers in the clinics pulse 2-3 times per second as it passes over the skin so the bikini area only takes 5 minutes). ALSO, the TRIA only runs about 20 minutes on a full battery, and it takes 4 hours to charge and you can't use it while it's plugged in and charging. So if you wanted to do say your left leg from the knee down it would take you 4-6 times of use (20 minutes each) and let it charge 4 hourses in between uses, that's almost a full day of work for just half of one leg, trust me, it's a real pain in the butt. ALSO! It is a CLASS ONE LASER, it has to be a weak laser so it's safe for home use, you can't hurt yourself with it. The lasers in the clinic are a CLASS 4, which means 4 times as strong, painful, and expensive. But it's definately worth it. I sold the TRIA and went to a medspa in houston, I'll post my normal laser hair removal answer too in case it helps you any.

At home laser hair removal?

posted by admin in March 9th, 2009
in tria laser

I'm considering buying either Tria or Silk'n laser hair removal. Based on your experience, which one do you think is better? Can I use them on my face? And also, I have medium skin (maybe a shade lighter than Jennifer Lopez, if that), so I'm a bit concerned that I'm too dark to use the products. If anyone can provide a link with this info, I'd be so grateful because I can't seem to find it myself anywhere.

Thanks so much!!! :):):)

Wow, I JUST found this article from someone else's question a few minutes before seeing yours. Talk about timing.
http://www.squidoo.com/hair-removal-systems
I haven't read the whole thing, so I don't know how far into detail it goes about how it's done, but I know it says the Silk'n hair removal system is good for people with light skin and dark hair.
Dunno how helpful the article will be, but good luck :)
